I am used to Asian bowls and especially Japanese bowls to be thin, light and strong. These are thick and are quite heavy - I would say at least double the weight of a normal Japanese rice bowl. I was also a bit disappointed in the quality and the craftsmanship of the ceramics.Update Apr 2, 2015Down grading to two stars. After about half a dozen times of pampered use (hand washed etc), I noticed that certain spots on the inside of the bowls are now permanently stained. I had cooked a vegetable that had seeds which can stain a little. Mind you I could wash that out of the cutting board without any problem. We did not use these bowls to hold the dish with staining seeds. We had rice in these bowls and then the dish was in the bowls for a few minutes before being consumed. Apparently that few minutes were enough to stain them! Two stars left for esthetic appeal.Bowls were beautiful and right size I was looking for. Unfortunately they arrived damaged still in Package.
