I LOVE this little steamer/rice cooker. I've had it for several months and have used it like crazy. It steams the veggies to perfection. You have to do a little trial and error to find the right timing but it is so worth the effort. I cook for two and it holds plenty for us. it's compact size is easy to store and clean up is a breeze. I am considering buying another one just in case this one ever gets tired from all the use!! My fear is they won't be available by the time that happens! Buy it! You won't regret it!Works great when steaming veggies, but rice cookers (excepting some complicated models) basically suck. I see so many people posting how they couldn't live w/o them, but they mostly suck. That said, this will cook rice with supervision. Granted, it doesn't spew as much starch laden steam all over the counters, but it still needs to be watched. (This is after having rinsed your rice multiple times.) After about 5 minutes you'll see bubbles rising up, so you must open the lid 2 or 3 times to drop the bubbles down, to avoid it spewing out the top. Again watch when the water boils down. The rice is usually cooked proper before water is 100% gone, it shuts down, and goes into "keep warm". If you wait that long you have dry rice, and sticking to the bottom. If you time it well, you have excellent rice. All in all, better than some, about 90% of preparing with constant supervision. I'm waiting for a ricer that won't mess up my kitchen and not require a constant watch... w/o requiring I scrub an 8 quart pressure cooker for 1/2 cup of rice. This is easy to use and works beautifully, plus it's just the right size for one person.bestIF you want this to make some simple rice dishes, it's fine. But I can tell from use, this will get worn out fast. I haven't owned it long, and the basin already has stains on it that I have to work to clear. It only has warm and cook settings. When you plug it in, it is already on warm - so do not plug it in until you are ready. It will dry out your rice and make it stick.Bought this for my college student, who was about to pack up my own rice maker and take it to school. Figuring most of these low-end models were about the same, I chose this one simply for the festive color and didn’t have very high expectations for performance. After having used it myself many times, I found this Oster as good or better than the different brands I have owned at this price point, so I gave my student the old one and kept this for myself! The first time I cooked rice with this, I mistakenly forgot all about it and it stayed on “warm” mode for probably an hour or more—to my surprise, the rice was not burned to the bottom as usual with these cheap cookers. That batch was white rice with broth, not sure if that mattered. I have also made both yellow rice and brown rice and those didn’t burn either (but I took the rice out pretty promptly once cooked). I do find that the rice is a little to “al dente” for my taste, but I've been experimenting with broth levels to see if I can get it to my preference. I have only used the steamer basket as a holding area to keep food warmed above the rice, and it works well for that when I'm not quite ready to sit down to dinner. As expected, the cooking pan cleans up easily as long as you don't scratch it—so use the provided plastic spoon to scoop rice, always!). The handle loop on the lid is wider than the one on my old cooker, so it's easier to handle. I normally make either 2 or 3 measures of rice (using the included plastic cup, not a real measuring cup) and it's fine for that; probably too small for more than a few people or for massive meal prepping.I love the ceramic nonstick coating of this rice cooker. Makes nice fluffy rice. If you let it sit too long it will clump of course. My only complaint is that there is no 'off' switch. It goes from cook to warm. Then does not shut off. So it will be warm forever and eventually get brown on the bottom unless you go unplug it. I tried flipping the switch up like it would be in an off position but it doesn't flip. So, just remember to unplug the cooker. I forgot once and it stayed warm all night. Seems like you shouldn't have to do that but that's how it is.I love this rice cooker! When I realized how gross my old one, with an attached lid, had become in all of the nooks and crannies that you can't clean out, I looked for one with a detached lid. This was perfect! The pot, steamer basket, and lid are all separate and removable so they can each be washed and no little hiding places for old rice-water to collect! I have had this cooker for over a year now. I have found the steamer basket to be a nice addition, as we can throw a few fresh carrots or broccoli, or even some frozen mixed veggies in there and they steam perfectly while the rice cooks. Some reviews mentioned that this splatters rice water out the steam vent as it cooks. I did find that this was true, but only when I am cooking a full 3 cups of rice and do not have the steamer basket on top. If you steam some veggies on top or cook less than a full pot (even at 2 1/2 cups) it does not splatter at all. I am very happy with our purchase of this rice cooker, and would recommend it.Ya tengo un año con esta arrocera y la sigo amando tanto como el primer día que llegó. Buena compra.
