I bought this ricer expressly to make mashed potatoes. It was not the cheapest available, but it appeared to be well-made. It's made of sturdy stainless steel and has a good heft to it. The silicone coating on the handles is a nice touch--it's comfortable to use.I didn't read the description carefully and was pleasantly surprised to discover three different kinds of discs. The third one has strange shapes for some reason I can't discern.I made mashed potatoes with the finest disc. They came out well, but the disc has an unfortunate tendency to stick to the plunger. It fits loosely into the cylinder, so there's nothing to hold it in.That's not a deal killer, but you should be aware that you may have to pry the disc loose from the plunger each time you process food.The potatoes tended to squirt out around the disc, which was somewhat annoying. I'll probably use the coarser disc (middle one) the next time I make mashed potatoes.Of more concern is the fact that the disc bent after the first use. I may have overloaded the cylinder. I'm going to contact the company and ask for a replacement.I used the middle disc today to mash some ripe bananas. It worked well, but with the caveat that the disc sticks to the plunger with each use.Overall I'm quite happy with it. I'm guessing that the disc bent because don't know my own strength. I probably wouldn't have had the problem if I were on my home planet.
