A: If you don't use the provided liners for the hot rice, it's possible that in the first few uses, the dye could bleed onto the outer edge of the rice. For export, we insure there are no harmful chemicals used in sterilizing the reeds, they are placed in a wood fired oven that heats the reeds and sterilizes the material. This process can sometimes leave the basket with a slight campfire like smell. If you experience this, place the basket outdoors and let it air, the wood smoke scent will decline and disappear.
