I did not buy this at Amazon but at Walmart for considerably LESS than this exact model (OS300) is being sold here at this moment.I had started using my old, stove-top Presto pressure cooked again, but started having problems with both adjusting the heat so it didn't boil dry and with the safety lock which didn't want to let me into the pot once it was fully cooled. I decided an automatic pot that would control the heat would be the solution, so I picked this up on a whim. I have tested most of the functions and it operates, for the most part, like the literature claims.Having said that, I have to point out, that proper pressure cooking is more of an art than a science, and while you can achieve excellent meals with this process, it takes a while (and a certain amount of inedible food) to master. If you are going to stick to the recipes in the enclosed booklet, you will do fine, but if you want to expand your repertoire to other dishes, it will take some experimenting. There are, of course, many recipes on the Internet, both for Insta-Pots and Foodis but you will have to try them to be sure they will work properly. In general, it will certainly save time cooking certain dishes, BUT the prep time will remain the same and if that is what discourages you about cooking, this device will not help. I found the "Tendercrisp" (pressure cooking, then browning with the "crisping" lid) to not live up to the literature. For example, because of the moisture involved in the pressure cooking phase, you can rarely get a decent brown on the food with the crisping lid. Also the bottom of the food will still be pretty unbrowned. If presentation is important, better to roast a chicken in the oven. It doesn't take that much more time than in the Foodi.Pros:Certainly is versatile in terms of the types of meals you can prepare in it.Like any pressure cooker, will shorten cooking times considerably, especially for tough cuts of meat, but saves you from adjusting heat and knowing just how fast that little weight on the steam valve has to rock. The device does seem to be well-built and solid and I have no qualms about pressure cooking with it.Cons:The thing is BIG, and if you are going to use it regularly, you need both counter space for the Foodi itself, plus storage space for the accessories like the pressure lid and the "broil rack". I would certainly NOT recommend it for people in small kitchens. The "broil rack" is essentially worthless. The bars are so far apart, that food placed on the rack must be a minimum of 1 inch IN EVERY DIRECTION to avoid having your food fall through. Additionally the "handles" on the rack basically make half the surface of the rack unusable. To be able to use the appliance to its full potential, you will have to buy the additional "optional" accessories that will fit properly in the Foodi. The inner pot with my Foodi has a slightly convex or domed bottom that means any oil you put in for browning immediately flows to the outer edge of the pot. (see picture) I do not know if this is a design flaw or just bad quality control. It does make browning meat a little more labor intensive. The steam release valve is sealed and fixed. There is no way to clean it if it should become gummed up for some reason. That will render the pressure lid unusable.Bottom line: Might be worth getting if you plan to do a LOT or pressure cooking. If you think you will use it more for air frying or slow cooking, you would probably be better off getting devices that specialize in those type of dishes.
